Attorney Steve Gursten in The Detroit News on MI’s new speed limit law

As Michigan gears up to pass a law that will allow drivers to increase their speed limits to up to 75 mph, attorney Steven Gursten weighs in with The Detroit News on the dangerous effect such a law will have.
Here’s what Gursten told The Detroit News:
“As an auto accident lawyer, I know there’s almost an epidemic of distracted driving, with people texting and driving. Now what we’re doing is taking away that safety cushion.”
In addition, Gursten pointed to a 1990 study by a University of Michigan researcher showing fatal crashes increased nearly 20 percent when the state raised its rural highway speed limits from 55 mph to 65 mph in 1987.
