The European Banking Authority (EBA) today published the results of the 2016 stress tests conducted for European banks.
The EBA worked in unison with the supervisory authorities participating in the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) for European banking supervision, the European Central Bank (ECB) and De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). The tests also covered four Dutch banks, which are ABN AMRO, BNG Bank, ING and Rabobank.
Two other Dutch banks, SNS Bank and NWB Bank, were subjected to the same test under the SSM’s ongoing supervision, and the EBA or the ECB will not publish their results.
The SSM will consider the results of the stress tests in its reviews of the banks’ capital positions (Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process – SREP), which it performs for individual banks each year.
